In purchasing a washing machine, it is important that you know which model you are looking for. There are two main ones, the front load washer and the top load washer. As their names imply, the difference between the two is how the laundry is put in.
The top load machine has a lid on top that is connected through a hinge. This lid opens and the clothes are placed through it. Its watertight tub is positioned horizontally and there is an agitator in the middle. This agitator is what makes the clothes swirl in the water along with the detergent and the fabric softener.
A front load washer also has a hinged lid but it is located in the front of the machine and that is how the clothes are placed in. there is no agitator in this kind but there are paddles that are placed on the side. This, along with gravity, allows the clothes in the front load washer to swirl. After closing the front door, it remains locked until after the machine stops washing.
A new choice these is to have a combination washer and dryer. This lets the user to do laundry quickly and without much effort. This is because the combination washer and dryer does all the cycles of washing, rinsing, and drying on its own. There is an automatic spin cycle and this is when the water is drained out and the clothes are dried.
A combination front load washer also allows you to save up on space which I am sure you will appreciate especially if you do not have that big of a laundry area. You do not need to worry about how big and bulky the machines are. But a complaint about these machines is that there is excessive vibration and the fact that they are limited to 110 volts does not give them the ability to use more heat for drying. This leads to a longer time in drying the clothes.
Having a front load washer is more beneficial over having a top load one. The top load washer only fits in a certain number of clothes because of the agitator in the middle. This device can use up some space. But the front loading washers do not have the agitator device so more laundry can be placed inside them. The horizontally-positioned tub can carry around 20-30% more in every washing. Another benefit of a front loader not having the agitator is that the clothes are treated more gently so the chances of them becoming over-stretched are little.
The biggest thing that differentiates a front load washer is its efficiency in using water. These washers need around 60% less water than the other type. It also uses energy more efficiently so you can expect your power bills to go down. If you are concerned with water and energy conservation, a front load washer is definitely for you.
Another tip: do not forget to use the recommended detergent for your front load washer if you do not want to fill your laundry floor with suds.
One great option for smaller spaces is to get a mini washer dryer. This is a type of combination washer dryer that can fit in apartments or condos easily.
