Swamp Turkey Hunter
Yesterday I ran across an article about a hunter who made his living specializing in hunting swamp turkeys. He was pictured in his camouflaged fatigues holding a trophy kill with the feathers spread out and fully covering his chest. Turkey hunting was like a hobby to this guy, he grew up hunting turkeys—not rabbits or squirrels, or deer, or even big game safari expeditions—just turkeys, you got it—hunting turkeys—or at least that was my impression after quickly scanning the article.
Now I won't write any more about this particular hunter—just that he was good at what he did, but I would like to explore the general field of making money by hunting turkeys.
Now I've always heard that people should find their make money niches and get really good at what they do—so much so they would practically own that niche or group of niches. A poet might write, get rich with your niche.
To be a good turkey hunter I would assume that one would have to start at a young age and learn the various turkey lingo and turkey calls associated with the wild game in various locations. By the time he became a young man he should be a specialist in turkey hunting and well prepared to make money at home hunting turkeys as long as the turkeys lived there also.
I understand the turkey is the largest wild game bird located in the United States and is highly sought after by many American hunters. Great wild turkey hunters are rare, which makes turkey hunting one of the best make money niches available to American hunters today. And if one can specialize in swamp turkey hunting, then I imagine the sky is the limit!
I learned in the article that from the moment a swamp turkey's egg is dropped to the swamp turf, his life is in danger. You see the turkey egg is food to a lot of swamp animals, and of course a young newly hatched Pout is just as delicious, if it can be wrestled away from its mother's roost. Young turkeys learn many methods of diversion early in life and by the time they are full grown they have mastered the skills of evasion. From the bobcats, panthers, and bears, to the slithering snakes and vicious alligators, an adult swamp turkey has shirted their ever present desire to make the turkey a meal.
Now to make money at home killing swamp turkeys, one would assume it necessary that the hunter live in the swamp—or at least near a swamp. I'm not from that part of the world so I don't know the ends and outs of living near a swamp. I would suppose there would be a lot of mosquitoes, knats, and other pesky insects to contend with, and I'm guessing there are lurking swamp animals like snakes and alligators.
Picture the view from your living room window. Taller trees form a canopy of foliage with snakes and vines slithering from the branches, underlying bushes and scrub like plants forming an understory, and the base or the turf being paved with mud or a combination of mud and tannic acid stained water and thick jungle like grass. Of all the make money niches I can imagine, I can not picture a more satanic view. But if you want to make money at home and live near the swamp, then by all means become a swamp turkey hunting specialist!
