It doesn’t matter how long or short your legs are – women know that it’s as important to accept what they are blessed with, as it is to give the impression of having long legs. Fashion has been pivotal in providing a way for us to enhance our legs. The combination of the right outfit and the right shoes has proven to do wonders. Here are some easy tips for lengthening your silhouette for any occasion.

Aim high. Opting for high heels and high platform shoes can really make an impression. Everyone knows that the lift of heels will make you taller. But they can also help make your legs look slimmer and longer. If you are scared of high stiletto heels, reach for those casual platforms that have the same effect with a little more stability to boot. You may have the confidence to go higher in your platforms than you ever would in stilettos.

Hint: Though they might be pretty, stay away from ankle straps if your goal is to lengthen the appearance of your legs. Straps can cut or interrupt the impression of the elongated look. Simplicity is the key to not distract from the visual effect of long, graceful legs.

Go narrow. The tapered, pointed shape of narrow toed shoes give the effect of longer legs. They also appear much less clunky. Case in point: Compare an unsharpened pencil with a sharpened one and you will see that even though they might be the same length the sharpened one will look longer. Enclosed toes are always an elegant look. But going with an open toe will be a little more comfortable – especially during the warm months of summer or long nights of dancing.

Hint: If you’re self conscious about the size of your feet narrow toes may not be right all the time. Also avoid flats if you have big feet and choose high platform shoes or heels that add height.

Make the effort to match. Sometimes we forget the simplest rules – such as color. Match the color of your shoes to the color of your pants and you will achieve the look of longer legs. Your silhouette will flow much more naturally as the eye will follow color as well as shape. Combine your black platform shoes with a pair of black pants.

Hint: The thinner the heel, the more tailored the outfit can be. Thicker styles like platforms and wedges go best with a more casual look. You can also pair them up nicely with short skirts, short dresses, sarongs and wide leg pants.

Go Nude. This is much less controversial than it sounds. By going nude with your shoes you can lengthen your leg line. When your heels match your skin tone your legs will look that much longer. Better yet, you won’t have to sacrifice your favorite embellishments like straps and lacing. We love how some designers like those behind daniblack shoes have embraced this relatively new trend.

Hint: If you’re going for the nude shoe look make sure to add a splash a color to the rest of your wardrobe. You want your legs to look long – not for you to look like one long leg.

Always make the most of what you have. Whether you have long legs already or need a little bit of a boost, the trick is never to squander what you have. Slip into your most comfortable patent platforms or take a stand in your most aggressive high heel stilettos.
