Over the years there have been several changes in the style and design of nursing uniforms, all of the changes have been for the better. Nurses can now feel far more comfortable in the uniform scrubs which are now available rather than the strict medical uniforms they once had to wear. Although there was no character or style to the military medical uniform they were practical and did a job.
As time progressed nurses and medical teams wanted to be recognized as individuals and nursing uniforms were restricting this. Although the uniform is an essential part of the job it is often better to have a casual approach to the uniform scrubs. They still need to be practical, comfortable and affordable and yet allow people to recognize that the person standing in front of them is part of the medical team. Even military nurses are allowed to wear uniform scrubs rather than their traditional nursing uniforms. Ease and comfort of the medical staff on the job has translated into a nursing staff with less physical restrictions placed on them by their uniforms.
Uniform scrubs are far easier to find and wash and because of their very low price have become very popular among medical professionals. They can be found in unisex or specific male and female fits which means females do not have to worry that you are wearing the same boxy cut medical scrubs as male colleagues. You can get uniform scrubs in different styles and colors and certain departments will opt for a specific color to designate their area. It has been proven that if patients feel relaxed then they make a faster recovery. The strict nursing uniforms often would put a barrier up between the patient and nurses and not help towards patient recovery.
Nursing uniforms have evolved so much over the years and this has not been strictly in the United States. The changes are becoming worldwide. Although uniform scrubs are often seen in the US, they are now as popular in England and other parts of Europe. The stuffy uniforms which are thought of as English nurses are slowly being traded in for more comfortable wear. The choice is there and although some nurses prefer to stick with traditional uniforms the trend towards uniforms that allow more flexibility of movement and lower cost is growing. Both nursing uniforms and uniform scrubs are now recognized as professional nursing uniforms both in the operating room and throughout the rest of the healthcare facility.
The newer style of uniform scrubs does have many benefits over the older style designs and many nurses love to wear them. Older nurses feel that it is a decline in the nursing profession and a strict nursing uniform should be worn. Whatever uniform you choose to wear you know that you are doing your job to the best of your ability. Nurses are amazing people who spend their whole days helping people and what they wear really has no relevance on that. As long as the nurse is comfortable in what they are wearing then this enables them to do their job well.
You can find different nursing uniforms and uniform scrubs online or in a nursing supply shop, you will find several different colors and choices to choose from. What design you choose will often be determined by who you are and what hospital you are in, some have policies on the uniforms and others are more lenient.
