The Scrubs is a popular TV series that instantly became a hit as soon it was launched in 2001. Over the years the series had been nominated for two Golden Globes and for 9 Emmy awards. The series started with a moderate but respectable fan base but has since then quickly build up a large fan base. The interesting thing about the series is that it takes a different approach to medical series and to sitcoms with all of its quirky characters and its different humor style.
The series had been created by Bill Lawrence who had also created Spin City. The Scrubs seasons 1-8 evolves with funny incidences and hilarious episodes. It is a spoof on other medical dramas that became so famous ever since ER became popular. It takes a lighter approach to the medical world rather than the tense, depressing one which is commonly seen in most series in this genre.
The Scrubs has been filmed in an actual hospital in Hollywood and follows the quirky character of John Dorian played by Zach Braff, or as he is popularly known, J. D. His best college friend is Christopher Turk, played by Donald Faison. Both of these characters are medical interns and have to learn the ropes of a real life hospital scenario in Sacred Heart Hospital. However, the hospital is an unbelievable medley of quirky characters and a dysfunctional working environment.
Over the seasons as J.D. tries to make sense of what goes on everyday in the hospital he comes across several characters like Doctor Elliot Reid, played by Sarah Chalke who is another intern and J.D. quickly gets interested in her. Then there is Doctor Bob Kelso, played by Ken Jenkins, who is the Chief at the hospital. Carla Espinos is a nurse and quite pessimist at that, the janitor has a weird sarcastic sense of humor while Dr. Perry Cox is as abrasive as it gets.
The series became successful because the cast is strong, the acting is flawless and the script is written quite well with a clever sense of humor. The characters are all quite unique and there are several memorable performances in the series. Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison are both known talents and Zach Braff, the lead character is hilarious and fit for his character.
The Scrubs Seasons 1-8 are packed with several hilarious episodes that follow the strange cases and the witty sense of humor of the characters as they try to learn the in and outs of the hospital. The guest characters and the regular ones all make the series interesting with their good delivery timing and their character portrayal.
