If you are looking to buy a down vest, jacket or coat, you can expect to be faced with such an enormous price range that you may feel rather overwhelmed. The general rule of thumb, of course, is that you get what you pay for, but when it comes to down vests, particularly at this time of year with all the stock clearances and seasonal sales in full swing, that adage does not always hold true.
For women, vest prices start as little as $15.00 for the most up-to-the minute, high-visibility colours and figure-hugging styles with Cabela's 'Northern Lights' range. If you want more traditional colours and styles, for the same price (thanks to their generous seasonal sale) you can also choose from their 550 premier Northern goose down fill range. Lands' End's women's regular 'Morgan' down vest has been reduced by more than half price from $49.50 to $19.99 in a choice of six colours and five sizes (from XS to XL). This is a classic style with 600 fill power down, designed to give protection in temperatures as low as 10 degree Fahrenheit. REI's winter clearance sale has even bigger bargains to be had with its ultra-light 'Royal Robbins' down vest, available in jet black or slate blue, and reduced in the winter clearance sale from $100.00 to $30.00. Black Country's 'Columbia Luxey Bliss' down vests are currently on sale at $55.97; the vertical channels in this stylish garment are particularly figure-flattering. You might also want to consider looking at their 'Go-Lite Beartooth' 650 down vests; these have sleek and stylish lines and come in a range of truly stunning colours - the light cypress is particularly attractive. A little more expensive, this retails at $77.97, which is a generous 40% saving on its regular price. Alternatively, if it is colour-impact you want, you really should look at Altrec's 'Oakley' range. In dazzling ice-white, you won't see a more feminine-looking vest on the market. It comes in sizes from XS to XL and retails at $80.00 and whether you are on the ski slopes or about town, you will not go unnoticed in this!
If you want to wear your vest as an outer jacket, you might take a look at both Black Country and Cabela's range of detachable, fur-trimmed, hooded vests, both retailing just short of $70.00. For the same price, however, you could buy a down jacket or even a three-quarter length down coat, if you shop carefully. J. C. Penney's' St John's Bay' down coat starts at $69,99, while Overstock's 'Nautica' range is only $63.74.
The prices of down coats and jackets, like the prices of vests, range considerably, but at this time of year there are great bargains to be had. The luxurious and beautiful 'Cole Haan' range, in feminine ivory or dramatic black, can be found at Bloomingdale's for $237.00 - a saving of $158.00 on the normal retail price. However this is not the sort of purchase you make on impulse, so, whilst you will want to snap up the bargains while you can, be sure to shop around before you buy.
